Are Switzerland’s success factors at risk?

In her presentation at the Reichmuth & Co Lecture No. 13, Vreni Spoerry talks about the political and economic success factors of Switzerland. Due to the Corona pandemic, the lecture took place in a closed setting on October 21, 2020 and was recorded as a video.

Vreni Spoerry was born in 1938 in Rapperswil/SG. She attended the commercial school in Hottingen Zurich and graduated with the commercial baccalaureate. She then studied law in Zurich, graduating in 1962. In 1974 – in the first elections with female participation – Vreni Spoerry was elected to the Audit Commission of the municipality of Horgen. Later she was part of the municipal executive and responsible for finances. In 1979, Spoerry was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council, and in 1983 to the National Council, where she served until 1996. From 1996 to 2003 she represented the Canton of Zurich in the Council of States. Vreni Spoerry has served on the boards of Credit Suisse, Nestle, Swissair and Zurich Insurance.

In her presentation, Spoerry provided insights and analysis on the current challenges facing Switzerland and asked whether the success factors that have led the country to economic and political leadership are at risk. Her presentation provided valuable insight into the discussion on the future of Switzerland and stimulated reflection on possible solutions.
