Political Correctness, Felt and Government Regulatory Frenzy

At the Reichmuth & Co Lecture No. 9, the respected financial expert Dr. Tito Tettamanti gave a lecture. His lecture illuminated the development of the Swiss media landscape.

Dr. Tito Tettamanti, born in 1930, received his doctorate in law with magna cum laude from the University of Bern. He worked as a lawyer and notary public, served as a member of the Grand Council in 1955 and as a member of the Cantonal Government in 1959, and founded the trust company Fidinam in 1960. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Ticino native was active as an entrepreneur and investor in the international real estate and financial sectors. At the end of the 1980s, he took control of Saurer AG. Tettamanti is Honorary President of the Civil Society Association and Vice President of the European Policy Forum in London. He is the author of various books and regularly publishes articles in newspapers and specialist journals.

As one of the key players in the acquisition of the newspaper in 2010, Tettamanti emphasized the importance of diversity of opinion and the challenges they faced. Despite fierce opposition and controversy, Tettamanti expressed satisfaction with the development of the Basler Zeitung under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Markus Somm. The newspaper’s journalistic line and tough, critical course have helped it attract attention outside the region. In light of the recently announced sale of Basler Zeitung to Tamedia, Tettamanti hopes that the newspaper’s unique identity and idiosyncrasy will be preserved so that it can continue to be an independent voice in the Swiss media landscape.
